Current Scholarship:

I am 0.5 Associate Lecturer in Fine Art at Sion Hill and currently module leader for MFA ‘Aspects of Contemporary Art’ modules. I also have tutorial responsibility for an allocation BA years 2 and 3 students.
I teach across all media. My emphasis in pedagogy is studio teaching but I do not see theoretical and critical methodologies as separated from that.I firmly believe that cultural production (including ‘fine’ art) has political and ideological ramifications and that it is the task of the student to challenge and reinvent these parameters for themselves. I see my work here, which I thoroughly enjoy, as an agency in this process.
My interest in art and aesthetics is in European modernism, American post modernity (minimalism and conceptual art).I am interested in current models of so called globalisation in visual art and the phenomenon of cultural capital overcoming productive commodity capital. My own practice has been on hold for the past few years owing to doctoral research in the School of Architecture at the University of East London where I am researching into the history and philosophy of architectural photography.
I am continuing to publish my research. Recently I have been co-editor of the book to be published by Wunderkammer Press 2012, ‘Painting with Architecture in Mind’which includes essays by Eric Alliez,John Rajchman, Mark Pimlott, Catherine Ferguson and Bernice Donszelman among others.
My writing is also featured in an important new book published by Ashgate and edited by Tim Wray and Andrew Higgott, ‘Camera Constructs’ (2012) which is about the photography of urban sites. My essay on subjectivity and architectural photography sets out my research concerns that have formed the basis for my doctoral research. My Doctoral paper was accepted on 30th January 2013.
